What matters is household fit, not a single range or assistance headline. Both are five-seat all-wheel-drive battery-electric SUVs offered in mainland China on August 5, 2026, but they divide the budget between a larger M7 body and a lower-priced Model Y with a longer official CLTC rating.

Key differences

  • AITO listed the M7 Ultra BEV five-seat AWD at ¥359,800 and Tesla listed Model Y Long Range AWD at ¥313,500, a ¥46,300 base-configuration gap. Options, assistance software, insurance, tax, registration, charging equipment, and finance can all change the on-road difference.
  • The selected M7 carries a 635km CLTC rating. Model Y lists 750km with 19-inch wheels and 690km with 20-inch wheels; those are certified test results, not guaranteed real-world range. AITO's 15-minute 30% to 80% charging claim assumes normal temperature and an approximately 600kW, 1000V charger, while Tesla lists paid Supercharging up to 250kW. Both peaks depend on the battery, state of charge, temperature, vehicle, charger, and site.
  • The M7 is 5080mm long, 1999mm wide, and 1780mm tall, with a 3030mm wheelbase. Ultra advertises ADS 4, but named city and parking functions require a separate software purchase and remain configuration-, software-, road-, and region-dependent.
  • Tesla includes base assistance and lists enhanced packages at ¥32,000 and ¥64,000. HIMA also separates named higher-tier functions from the base vehicle; every assistance option requires active driver supervision.

Who it is for

  • Choose AITO when the 5080mm body, taller cabin package, and HIMA experience solve a real family-space need and fit the garage, routes, and written budget.
  • Choose Model Y when the lower base price, 750km rating on 19-inch wheels, and paid Supercharging network fit are more useful than the M7's larger body.
  • Choose neither until the household verifies parking, home or regular charging, route range, on-road cost, and what each supervised-assistance package actually includes.

Watch-outs

  • Do not compare 635km, 750km, or 690km as guaranteed road range. Weather, speed, load, wheels, and charging conditions can materially change a trip.
  • The ¥46,300 displayed gap is not a final ownership gap. Obtain same-date written quotes covering options, insurance, tax, registration, charging equipment, and finance.
  • The M7's 5080mm by 1999mm footprint and 3030mm wheelbase must fit the actual parking and turning environment; a larger body is useful only when the cabin benefit is worth that constraint.
  • A 600kW test charger or a 250kW listed peak does not promise that rate at every stop, and neither ADS 4 nor Tesla's optional packages remove active driver supervision.
