These are different Tokyo days, not two versions of the same observation deck. Tokyo Tower is the shorter historic landmark and can be a compact central-city stop. Tokyo Skytree offers much higher viewing levels and sits inside a larger shopping and leisure destination. Ticket tier matters as much as the venue: the lowest Tokyo Tower ticket is cheaper, but Skytree's online 350m-plus-450m set currently starts below Tokyo Tower's online Top Deck Tour price.

What to compare

  • Observation height changes the experience. Tokyo Tower's Main Deck is at 150m and its Top Deck at 250m. Skytree's Tembo Deck is at 350m, the Tembo Galleria reaches 450m, and Sorakara Point is 451.2m. Greater height expands the view but also makes haze, cloud, and weather more consequential.
  • The published adult ticket structures now overlap. Tokyo Tower lists JPY 1,500 for the Main Deck, JPY 3,300 online for the Top Deck Tour, and JPY 3,500 at the counter. Skytree's dynamic online pricing starts at JPY 1,800 for the Tembo Deck and JPY 3,000 for the deck-plus-galleria set; its counter adds a JPY 500 issue fee.
  • Tokyo Tower favors a shorter, historic itinerary. Its current Main Deck hours run 9:00 to 23:00, with last admission at 22:30. The Top Deck Tour runs to 22:45 with a 22:15 last tour, but the operator can suspend it in poor weather or adjust admissions for congestion.
  • Skytree works better as a destination day. The 350m deck and 450m galleria can be paired with the surrounding complex, but the exact ticket price is set by visit date. Check the selected date, entry time, cancellation terms, and event schedule before building the rest of the itinerary around it.
  • The summer stair plan needs a safety correction. From July 18 through August 31, 2026, Tokyo Tower has closed the upward outdoor stairs because of heatstroke risk. Downward stair access is planned from 9:00 to 20:00, but rain, storms, or heat warnings can close it. Do not book the visit expecting an upward climb.

Who it is for

  • Choose Tokyo Tower if you want the historic landmark atmosphere, a shorter central-city stop, a JPY 1,500 entry tier, or a late Main Deck schedule without committing to the highest view.
  • Choose Tokyo Skytree if a 350m or 450m panorama is the main event, you want to build a longer outing around the surrounding complex, and you are comfortable selecting a date-dependent ticket in advance.

  • A taller deck is not automatically a clearer view. Forecast, haze, sunset timing, and cloud base can matter more than the maximum height.
  • Compare the complete outing: transport, neighborhood plans, queues, ticket tier, accessibility needs, and a poor-visibility backup.
